Studjurban’s Pjazza tal-Belt Vittoriosa in Birgu project has received a Special Mention at the Architizer A+ Awards, placing it in the top 5% of thousands of entries submitted from around the world.

The awards platform reaches a global audience of over 400 million people, making this recognition a meaningful milestone for our team at Studjurban, for the project itself and for Maltese urban design.

More importantly, this recognition reinforces the philosophy that Studjurban has been constantly promoting: that public space belongs to people.

From concept sketch to visualisation, this terraced house was shaped by a clear ambition – open up the interior while celebrating the existing central staircase as a sculptural feature and anchor for the ground floor.

Positioned between the living area and the kitchen-dining space, the staircase serves as a subtle divider, maintaining visual connection and encouraging light to flow throughout. Timber, terrazzo, and soft neutral finishes create a contemporary yet warm material palette that defines the home's character.

Interpretive tactile wayfinding panels integrated within the fabric of the renewed Piazza tal-Belt Vittoriosa in Birgu, reflect the project’s attention to detail, material integrity, legibility and layered memory. More than signage, they form part of an integrated public realm designed to be read and touched, supporting orientation, pause, and the full activation of the square in everyday life.

What makes a space truly liveable?

Our Director, Perit Antoine Zammit, joined the Local Councils' Association Malta to launch the Open Spaces guidelines, a project close to our hearts here at STUDJURBAN.

Developed for the Local Councils’ Association under their vision, this compendium of five documents marks a pivotal step for the development of public open spaces in Malta and Gozo.

At STUDJURBAN, we believe open spaces are the connective tissue of our communities. Further to our set of good-practice documents on Sustainable Mobility, these guidelines, covering Parks and Gardens, Historic Hubs and Piazzas, Open Markets, Open Space Re-use and Outdoor Sports, provide a research-backed framework to further transition from car-oriented streets to human-centred environments.

A contemporary home rooted in craft.

Set within a quaint traditional village, this new dwelling celebrates the precision and permanence of custom limestone work. The arched openings along the internal courtyard bring light and rhythm to the space, subtly framing the main axis and create a quiet sense of movement through the space.

More on this project, soon!
