The Mysterium Fidei Museum is an immersive experience in the underground complex lying beneath St. Catherine’s Monastery in Valletta it currently houses the last 3 Monastic nuns, like Soru Antoinette; who chose to lock themselves from the outside world, till death and beyond it.

You can get glimpses into everyday life at the monastery and the fascinating secrets hidden within these walls and travel through time from the era of the Knights of St. John, to this day.

I took an audio tour of the complex for just €8, and embarked on a nostalgic journey through time before I had to attend a Wedding at the St. Catherine's Church down the road in Valletta. As the tales of St. Catherine's Monastery unfolded, I attempted to capture it on film through a Voigtländer 35mm, using Tri-X film, preserving the monastery's essence with the distinct charm of analog aesthetics.

Soru Antoinette's daily ritual, frozen in the emulsion of film, carries a unique texture that transcends the digital realm. The scratches, imperfections, and rich contrast become part of the narrative, adding layers to the story etched in her 80-year-old silhouette.

My favourite photographers use a lot of low key lighting to create that dramatic and emotional atmosphere that I enjoy in black and white photographs.
