Freedom Day – Join Us to Honour Malta's Independence

Today, we commemorate Freedom Day, marking the withdrawal of British troops from Malta on 31st March 1979, a significant moment in our history when Malta took full control of its own destiny.

This day is not just about military departure, but about the strength, determination, and unity of the Maltese people. Celebrations across the island often include ceremonies at the Freedom Monument in Vittoriosa, as well as reflections on our national identity and progress.

Malta celebrates 46 years of freedom 46 years ago, the last British forces left the island for good and Malta will today celebrate one of its five national holidays by holding the traditional regatta race in the Grand Harbour and a string of official activities in Birgu

On 19th March, Malta honours St. Joseph, the patron saint of workers and fathers, with religious services, vibrant processions, and spectacular fireworks. Rabat is at the heart of the celebrations, with special Masses, marching bands, and a lively community atmosphere.

As one of Malta’s most cherished feasts, this day blends faith, tradition, and festivity, offering a unique cultural experience.

Today marks Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, a significant time in Malta’s religious and cultural calendar. From 27th February to 4th March, the Maltese Islands come alive with colour, music, and larger-than-life celebrations!
