Meet Dr. Ahmed Anwar, Rector of Villa College!

Dr. Anwar is one of the most prominent figures in the field of education in the Maldives with over 50 years of experience. His career began as a teacher followed by various leadership positions in schools. He then became the Director General of School Systems at the Ministry of Education overseeing over 200 government schools in the Maldives. Dr. Anwar also played a key role in developing the higher education regulatory framework as the Director General and head of the Maldives Accreditation Board (now Maldives Qualification Authority) from 2005 to 2008. Dr. Anwar has also been Internationally recognized in the field of education winning numerous awards for his outstanding contributions in education.

Dr. Anwar completed his Master of Education and obtained his Doctor of Education, from the School of Education at University of Bristol, UK. His research focused on problems of teacher supply in the Maldives: a critical account of teachers’ work, status and the market situation.

As the key personnel behind the establishment of Villa college - the first private college in the Maldives, he is continuing to re-define the education sector of the Maldives, through setting trends in higher education, adapted from leading academic institutes in the developed world.
