๐ข Happy World Sea Turtle Day! ๐
Today weโre celebrating some of the oceanโs most remarkable travellers.
At our rehabilitation centre, the species we encounter most often is the Olive Ridley sea turtle. Unlike reef-associated species, Olive Ridleys spend much of their lives in the open ocean, making them especially vulnerable to entanglement in ghost nets and other marine debris. In fact, many of the Olive Ridleys admitted to rehabilitation centres across the Maldives are suffering from injuries caused by discarded fishing gear and marine pollution.
Despite their challenges, these resilient turtles continue to inspire us every day. Every rescue, rehabilitation, and release is a reminder of why protecting our oceans matters.
This World Sea Turtle Day, letโs celebrate these incredible animals and do our part to keep their ocean home healthy
