President Patrick Herminie has chaired the third meeting of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, reaffirming agriculture as a key pillar of Seychelles' long-term development strategy.

The Council discussed measures to boost food security, increase local agricultural production and improve access to finance, innovation, water, energy and technology. Members also emphasized the importance of value addition, farmer support and stronger collaboration to build a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.

The government says strengthening agriculture will enhance food security, economic resilience and public health while reducing reliance on imports.

Gold Fields Executive Vice President Benford Mokoatle has been appointed to the Advisory Board of African Mining Week (AMW) 2026, strengthening the conference's focus on advancing Africa's gold mining industry.

With more than 21 years of experience in mining, Mokoatle will help shape discussions on investment, gold production, beneficiation and sustainable sector growth. His appointment comes as record gold prices continue to drive new opportunities across Africa's mining industry.

African Mining Week 2026 will take place from October 14–16 in Cape Town, bringing together industry leaders, investors and policymakers to unlock the continent's full mineral value chain.

Afreximbank, through its investment arm FEDA, has appointed One Street Studios as Co-General Partner of the Pan-African Film Fund, an initiative targeting up to US$1 billion to accelerate Africa's film and creative industries.

The fund will finance film, television and digital media projects, while investing in production studios, post-production facilities, distribution networks and streaming platforms. The initiative aims to strengthen African storytelling, create jobs, attract global investment and position the continent as a leading hub for audiovisual content.

The partnership forms part of Afreximbank's Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) strategy to unlock the economic potential of Africa's creative sector.
