Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) was established in 1995 as a local Civil Society Network registered under the Companies Act and is a network of 90 local Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organizations that work to promote good governance, protect human and people’s rights, and contribute to national development through the entrenchment of a culture of transparency and accountability. HRCC does not promote personalities for political or other interests, but promotes systems and principles that are incidental to development and to the entrenchment of a culture of respect for human dignity at all levels.
HRCC believes in and uphold the following values:
We shall be transparent and accountable in the operations of our activities and in the ways we obtain and make use of resources entrusted to us.

We shall walk our talk and shall endeavor to be above reproach.
Good governance
We shall ensure that our work and our conduct are participatory, consensus oriented, responsive to the needs of the people and stakeholders, effective, efficient, inclusive and follow the rule of law.
Solidarity
We shall stand together, championing a common cause where mutual trust and commitment are adhere to.
Non discrimination
We shall not discriminate on the basis of gender, s*x, race, tribe, creed, status and religion.
Gender mainstreaming
We shall ensure that gender issues are at the centre of our core activities and shall ensure fairness and justice in the allocation of resources, opportunities and benefits to both men and women.
KEY FOCUS AREAS
HRCC is characterised by the diversity of its members’ organizational structures, mandates and interests, and a wide geographical scope. There are therefore numerous demands - from members and stakeholders alike - for HRCC to work on a variety of thematic and methodological areas which reflect this diversity.
To be effective it is being proposed that HRCC shift and target resources to strategic areas where it can have the strongest impact, strengthen our members work and complement the work of our partners at Country and regional level. The areas being proposed for HRCC’s focus for the next three years are as follows in order of priority;
• Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
• Governance and Democratic rights
• Human Rights Education
• Human Rights and Conflict
• Legal (rule of law and democratic space)
• Trafficking and Migration • Sustainable Development Goals • Human Rights and Business • Older Persons’ Human Rights
Key Result areas
Based on the full implementation of the above, it is envisaged that HRCC will achieve the following results;
Build HRCC Network capacities to effect change at national level
Support effective engagement at National level
Support effective engagement at the regional and international level, in cooperation with regional and International HR bodies including enhanced compliance with treaty body requirements i.e. through submission of compliance reports
Increase the visibility of HRCC and its Network members
Enhance member engagement and network communications
Effective contribution to National governance structure
Enhanced citizen participation and engagement on national development agenda.
Strengthen HRCC’s governance and management i.e. strengthened internal controls Enhanced Strategic fundraising
