UPDATE YOUR ANTI-VIRUS

Now that our computer system is updated, let's also consider updating the applications mainly the Anti-Virus.

Most computer owners disregard updating the Anti-Virus on their computers. When you install an Anti-Virus you have to frequently update it. The presence of Anti-Virus on the computer does not guarantee that protection from viruses until it is updated.

The Anti-Virus has to get new methods of detecting viruses. Every day there are maliscious people creating new Viruses with different aims. Some to disrupt businesses, some just for fun including those that want to steal your information. In short your Anti-Virus software is outdated the moment a new virus is created.

The Anti-Virus can be configured to automatically update itself or you can do it manually. An active internet connection is a must.

How to check and update your Anti-Virus.

We will discuss three Anti-Virus softwares out of the many Anti-Virus softwares on the market.

Windows Defender

A Windows operated computer comes with an Anti-Virus pre-installed. You can check for updates by doing the following:

1. Click start and type Windows Defender Security Center. Click to open it.

2. Click on the Virus & threat protection tile

3. Click on Virus & threat protection updates.

4. Click on Check for Updates

Kaspersky

Kaspersky Anti-Virus also requires an active internet connection to download and install Updates. You must have it licensed in order to download and install updates.

1. Click start and type Kaspersky. Click on the Kaspersky Anti-Virus version installed. ie. Kaspersky Internet Security.

2. Click Database Update.

AVG

AVG has two types of licensing models. One is Free and the other you have to purchase. Like any other Anti-Virus, AVG requires an active internet connection.
To update do the following:

1. Click on start and type AVG. Select AVG to open the user/application interface.

2. Click the menu. Usually it's shown as three horizontal lines.

3. Click settings ensure General is selected.

4. Click Update.

Updating the Operating System.

The OS requires to be updated frequently. These updates are important to it's functionality and also security.

Windows OS

To update a Windows OS do the following:

Connect your computer to an active internet.

Click on the start menu
Type Update, in the list choose Check for Updates. Wait while Windows checks for updates.
Click install Updates.

When all updates are installed, might be asked to restart your computer. The update installation continues and might take a lot of time. During this phase, DO NOT unplug your computer of force shut down by pressing the power button.

Updating Mac OS

Connect your Computer to an active internet.

Choose System Preference from the Mac menu

Click on software update to check for updates.

If there are any updates click the Update now button to install the updates.

Updating Linux OS

Due to the many versions and variations of Linux OSs, this "how to" will touch on Ubuntu Linux. For other distributions of Linux we have a separate series of based on Linux.

Connect your computer to an active internet connection

An account with sudo privilege is a must.

Press CTRL+ALT+T together to open the terminal

Type sudo apt-get update press enter

Type sudo apt-get upgrade -y press enter

That's it you have your computer system updated. Regularly check you computer system for updates by following these steps.
