Lord Maitreya holds the office of Cosmic Christ and Planetary Buddha. His name means "loving kindness."
He and Gautama Buddha trained side by side for centuries under Sanat Kumara. Gautama won the buddhic degree first, by a narrow margin. Maitreya was accorded the next office — World Teacher — charged with designing the spiritual instruction most needed by humanity for each two-thousand-year cycle.
He is known as the Great Initiator. Maitreya was the teacher of Jesus and the one who initiated Jesus in the individualization of the Christ flame in his final embodiment as world saviour.
Maitreya was guru of twin flames in the Garden of Eden — the first mystery school on earth, located on Lemuria. He is the Lord God in Genesis. Through the long ages since, he has continued training disciples between embodiments in his retreats on the etheric plane, maintaining the thread of the teaching through every era.
When Gautama took the office of Lord of the World in 1956, Maitreya succeeded him as Cosmic Christ. On May 31, 1984, he reopened his Mystery School — this time for the age of Aquarius.
Across Asia, Maitreya is revered as the coming Buddha. In Chinese Buddhism he is the beloved Laughing Buddha, surrounded by happy children, a symbol of abundance and spiritual joy.
His banner is a great clipper ship coming in with the tides at evening, fetching souls to carry them to another shore.
