Roy Jones Jr emotionally speaks on the other side of boxing after meeting with one of the best heavyweights of the 70’s, Jimmy Young.

Young famously sent George Foreman into a ten year retirement after beating him in 1977, however, Young went on to be a sufferer of CTE, chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

Roy said Young explained to him that incredibly, boxers face their biggest dangers in training, and not actually in the ring during their professional boxing matches.

Roy Jones Jr: “Every blow you take to your head counts, whether you’re in training or in a real fight. They think training don’t count.. YES IT DOES. That’s where most of these guys get messed up.

“I met Jimmy Young when I was 17, Jimmy Young could hardly talk, Jimmy Young pulled me to the side he said ‘hey son, let me tell you something,’ he said, ‘you see how I am right now, this didn’t happen to me in a boxing ring in fights, this happened to me in sparring. When I was 16, they made me spar with Joe Frazier everyday.. EVERYDAY, when I was 16 to 21.. that’s what messed me up. I didn’t get hit in pro fights.’
