🐟 Before aquatic food systems can transform, inclusion must be embedded by design

In Tanzania, stakeholders from government, research and development institutions have endorsed an inclusive roadmap to strengthen the integration of Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) across aquatic food systems transformation efforts.

The endorsement marks an important step toward ensuring national policies, governance processes and sector strategies intentionally address barriers affecting women, youth and marginalized groups — helping advance a more equitable and resilient blue economy.

By embedding inclusion into national dialogue and planning, Tanzania is helping shape aquatic food systems that work for everyone.

🌦️A climate-smart aquaculture innovation taking shape in Nigeria

New research under the Asia–Africa BlueTech Superhighway initiative demonstrates the successful captive propagation of the African water snail (Pila africana) for integration into brackish-water Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) systems.

Findings show strong growth, survival and successful reproduction under captive pond conditions.

This reduces reliance on wild populations, improving the scalability of sustainable aquaculture systems.
