Days before Christmas, a 55-year-old peasant leader was shot dead in her home late on the night of December 23 in Negros Occidental, Philippines.

Jimenez was the wife of another farmer-leader who was killed on November 30, 2022, after being captured by the military.

Following her husband’s death, Jimenez was reportedly subjected to repeated harassment by state forces. Rights groups said she was frequently summoned to village offices and pressured to surrender as an alleged member of the revolutionary army active in the area, accusations Jimenez’s family denied.

PAN Asia Pacific stands with Filipino communities in demanding justice for Jimenez and accountability for the systematic targeting of farmer-leaders in the Philippines.
