One Bite at a Time
This page is conceived to log and share my food adventures, mostly in Ipoh these days. Pearl of the Orient. Food Heaven. I'm here to eat everything.

I only knew this place existed for about 2 weeks or so, but have already lost count how many times I dropped by. Amazing food and drinks (the presentation!) aside, I think it's rather the people that makes me wanna come back. Never thought I'd say that. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction.

This morning, I also had a fried cruller (you tiao) and a glutinous rice doughnut (kap zhong). The stall has been around forever—certainly since I was a child. The light crisp on all the snacks made it a satisfying experience. The clear, fresh color of the frying oil gave me a profound sense of security, unlike some other stalls where the jet-black oil in the wok makes you conjure thoughts of a premature death, should you choose to patronise them.

I had a chee cheong fun for breakfast. The char siew is somewhat chewy and astringent, detracting significantly from the eating experience. However, the excellent soy sauce and crisp, aromatic fried onions provided the dish with some level of redemption. I suspect that ordering the plain (kosong) version might be the ideal experience.
