Keep reading — bounce isn’t just what your wedge says on the bottom, it changes based on face angle and shaft lean.

• Face more open = you expose more sole → more effective bounce (helps the club slide, great for soft turf/sand and high, soft shots).

• Face more closed = less sole exposed → less bounce (easier to dig, risky in soft conditions).

• More shaft lean forward (hands ahead) = de-lofts the club → reduces bounce and can make the leading edge dig.

Quick tip: if you’re chunking chips/pitches, try a touch more open face and feel the club “skim.” If you’re blading, you may be adding too much bounce or leaning back—get the handle slightly forward and keep turning through.
