Later, I realized,

the hardest part
isn’t being alone.

It’s slowly becoming
someone no one thinks about anymore,
even though you were once surrounded by people.

Your phone grows quieter.
The messages become fewer.

It’s not because you’ve become less.

Some relationships
simply fade with time.

Loneliness isn’t eating alone,
or walking home by yourself.

It’s realizing
there’s no one left
you know how to talk to.

So you learn to stay silent.
You learn to comfort yourself.

May every day
that goes unanswered
lead you to someone
who truly understands you.
