𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 — 𝐃𝐀𝐏 𝐒𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬

The Democratic Action Party Sabah successfully held its 2025 Leadership Retreat from May 2nd to 4th at the Borneo Beach and Mangrove Resort.

The retreat brought together prominent national and state DAP leaders, as well as grassroots representatives, for in-depth discussions on DAP Sabah's election strategy, governance policies, and the future of Sabah. The retreat achieved remarkable results and reinforced a strong sense of unity within the party.

DAP Sabah Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe said the retreat forged consensus among the party’s leadership and members in preparation for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election. It aimed to ensure strategic alignment, with particular focus on policy directions that are more relevant to the people of Sabah, paving the way for electoral success.

Among the key national leaders present were DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo, National Organising Secretary Khoo Poay Tiong, Publicity Secretary Yeo Bee Yin, Strategy Director Liew Chin Tong, Political Education Director Howard Lee, Elections Director Wong Kah Woh, and Sabah State Secretary Vivian Wong, among others.

Phoong noted that Sabah’s political landscape remains highly fluid and unpredictable. In such turbulent times, DAP Sabah must maintain a clear identity and focus—advocating sound policies and a hopeful vision for the people, demonstrating that DAP is capable of driving real change.

“DAP Sabah is not interested in playing political games. We must become the key party that proposes clear solutions to Sabah’s pressing challenges and delivers real progress. We must clearly articulate our vision for Sabah’s future and earn the people’s trust through hard work, solid policies, and proven results.”

Phoong stressed that as DAP now plays a governing role at both federal and state levels, its leaders—from ministers and assemblymen to grassroots members—must live up to the expectation of being capable and results-oriented, focusing on serving the people rather than engaging in daily political drama.

“We must let our performance speak for itself, use statistics to prove our impact, and show the people that DAP is a party of action. I call on all levels of the party to promote our Three-Good Policy: improve livelihoods, boost the economy, and, most importantly, ensure the people's wellbeing,"

Nonetheless, Phoong reiterated that while discussions on political alliances are premature, the party remains open to constructive dialogue with any party that shares its reformist direction.

“Alliances must go beyond stability—they must also propose a governing vision. That’s why I’ve always stressed: before we talk about alliances, let’s talk about policies first. That’s the role DAP hopes to play.”

Phoong thanked all the participating leaders and called on the entire party to stay united and prepare thoroughly for the coming challenges with humility, confidence, and a positive spirit to earn the people’s trust.

“We must work twice as hard and stay focused. Only then can we bring true unity, stability, progress, and hope to Sabah.”
