In mid-February, at least two 17-year-old boys (and potentially up to six children in total) were arrested in their homes and taken to Bukit Aman. They weren't processed through the juvenile justice system. They were detained under SOSMA - Security Offences (Special Measures) Act.

For context, SOSMA is the state's favorite loophole to bypass the right to a fair and speedy trial. It allows for prolonged detention without accountability. Applying it to 17-year-olds for the alleged possession of "security-related materials" is a gross abuse of power.

The Office of the Children's Commissioner has already warned that this completely contravenes standard child rights, but the authorities have seemingly decided that international human rights standards are optional.

Why should you care? Because the normalization of draconian laws always starts at the margins. When we allow the state to treat children like hardened terrorists, we quietly agree to lower the bar for what justifies stripping a citizen of their rights. It establishes a dangerous precedent where the government can arbitrarily label anyone a "security threat" to make them disappear into the system, bypassing the courts entirely. It’s a systemic issue, and it affects all of us.

So, here is a container. Take a good look at it, and then look at what’s happening in Bukit Aman.
