High blood pressure (hypertension) is a global health concern with nearly one-third of adults affected (2010). Lifestyle factors are the leading cause of hypertension, including excess sodium intake, low potassium intake, obesity, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diet. In addition to making positive lifestyle changes, essential oils may be helpful to support healthy blood pressure. A foot massage with lavender essential oil decreased blood pressure in people with hypertension. Subjects received a 15- to 20-minute foot massage with lavender essential oil, twice daily, and after three days of massage with lavender reduced blood pressure from 150/90 to 120/80 and 170/100 to 150/90 in a small pilot clinical study.

Add 10 drops of lavender, 5 drops of orange, 3 drops of ylang ylang, and 2 drops of vetiver to a 10 mL roller bottle and fill the rest with carrier oil. Apply this to the bottoms of the feet and massage into the area for 15 minutes for a happy blood pressure foot massage. Great before sleep too!
