🔎 Cutting with scissors

Scissors are not dangerous! But a GREAT TOOL for children to work on their fine motor skills and coordination! Working with scissors even give children the feeling of POWER 😆 because adults are the one who use scissors all time! When passing a scissors to children, you may also teach about safety!

As young as 18 months children can start playing with paper scissors! Paper scissors are much safer because it can only cut paper 😂 But it’s much difficult to cut too because you have to get the right angle! We recommend normal child’s scissors but always use UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION.

If you plan to do cutting with your child, go ahead and get unwanted paper to start practicing ❤️ Children can start with cutting straight line, then round shape, then zigzag line!

🔎 Sorting/ Classification

Do you know it's important for children to learn sorting/ classification?

Children understand the world by seeking patterns and orders naturally, that's why they are attracted by this type of activity immediately! Learning to sort and classify builds foundation to their Math skills later on! By sorting, children learn to identify objects based on their attribute, whether it is alike or different! Research shows that children who are used to comparing and contrasting do better in Mathematics later!

What can we sort at home? ANYTHING! We adults are constantly doing sorting too! For example, sorting clean dishes and dirty one; sorting clean laundry by putting it in different categories; sorting kitchen utensils and stationery at different places! These daily routines are the one children are interested in too! If you want to design a purposeful play, try to get different items at home and let your child sort by colors, shapes, functions, designs, patterns, or anything that you can think of! This helps children to build their logical thinking too!
