Dive Safe 👌🏻
Struggling to get down? Here are two reasons why you shouldn’t just fin head-first down to the bottom.
1. You might just have air trapped in your BC.
If you’re kicking head-first to the bottom with a good amount of air left in your BC, it’s possible that you’ll pop right back up to the surface once you stop actively swimming down. Uncontrolled ascents can lead to serious injury. If you can’t get enough air out of your BC through your inflator hose, make sure you’re positioned with that hose as the highest point (that way the air will flow out without getting trapped). Alternatively, try using the other dump valves on your BC if you want to descend in style.
2. Head-first descents may facilitate ear issues.
As you descend, approximately one half a pound of pressure is added with every foot of water; Descending head-first may make it tougher to equalize early and often enough. If you properly vent the air from your BC and wear the proper amount of weight, descending feet-first should not be difficult. Descending this way keeps you in control and able to make your way down slowly, equalizing as much as you need to.

Take Note!
It takes them 20 years to reach sexual maturity. How are they meant to keep up when they’re wiped out, 300 at a time, ‘by accident’
