Dyslexia Awareness Workshop successfully held at USAINS, USM Penang on 13 June 2026. The workshop brought together educators, parents, professional therapists, lecturers, PPKI teachers, KKM representatives, and community members to enhance awareness of dyslexia, understand early signs, and share practical support strategies for dyslexic learners.

The workshop was led by three volunteer speakers: Crestin Teh from Tadika Harmoni Etika Penang, Semantha Css from SEM Public Speaking Johor, and Lester Au from Lionzania Play and Grow Care Centre, Ipoh.

Appreciation is extended to the Chairman of District Action Group on Autism (DAGA), Ms. Judy Chong, for sharing her testimony as a parent of a dyslexic learner.

Special thanks to Haus by Wildmums for sponsoring the door gifts, which enabled participants to engage in a hands-on arts and crafts activity, creating colorful flower designs using fine motor skills and sensory exploration (VAKT). Such creative tasks are particularly beneficial for learners with dyslexia, as they allow them to express ideas visually and build strengths beyond traditional literacy-based learning.

Handicraft sessions create a safe, hands-on space where dyslexic children can learn beyond books and freely express their creativity.

Through simple step-by-step guidance from facilitators — e.g. from assembling **3 stalks per cup**, layering **3 fabric petals per flower from biggest to smallest**, to arranging every final detail — children can follow clear instructions without feeling overwhelmed.

This process strengthens **confidence, fine motor skills, focus, sequencing ability, decision-making, and independent thinking**, while allowing them to explore creativity without fear of making mistakes.

Most importantly, it helps them discover that learning something new can be **fun, achievable, and empowering**
