Today's Green Tip : RECYCLE. Batteries are essential to our daily lives, including but not limited to remote controls, smartphones, and pacemakers. But what should you do when it is at the end of their lifespan?

Consider using rechargeable batteries (if possible / available). It does cost more in the beginning, but with the amount of charge cycles (usually over 1,000 times) you can get out of them, the per unit cost is significantly lower over the life of the batteries. For regular non-rechargeable / single-use batteries, remember they cannot be disposed of in your general waste (it can ignite) and the garbage truck / dump site can catch on fire. There are quite a few centres throughout the country that will accept batteries for proper handling (eg. Ikea (Ikano Power Centre), One Utama recycling centre, Harvey Norman outlets, etc.). There are some other electrical / electronic stores that will also accept them, and some city councils that also offer at home collections of batteries (contact your local council for more information).
