Why “Always Add Acid to Water”?

For safety reasons, it is critical to follow the guideline of always adding acid to water, rather than water to acid. This ensures safety and proper handling of the reaction. Here are the main reasons:
1. Exothermic Reaction
• Adding acid to water produces a controlled exothermic reaction (releasing heat).
• If water is added to concentrated acid, the intense heat generated can cause sudden boiling, leading to hazardous splashes of acid.
2. Controlled Dilution
• Gradually adding acid to water allows for better control over the dilution process and the amount of heat released, preventing rapid reactions.
3. Minimization of Risks
• This approach significantly reduces the chance of concentrated acid splashing, protecting skin and eyes from severe burns.
4. Better Heat Dissipation
• The larger quantity of water absorbs and dissipates the heat more effectively, reducing the likelihood of dangerous boiling or splattering.

Remember: Always wear appropriate protective equipment (gloves, goggles, lab coat) when handling acids, and work in a well-ventilated area or under a fume hood.

🌟 Milestone Achieved for HTAR Klang! 🌟

Proud to announce that we have successfully completed the exit meeting for the Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR), Klang. This marks a significant milestone as the first-ever CHRA conducted for HTAR after 39 years of operation.

This achievement reflects a collective effort to prioritize workplace safety and health, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safeguarding the well-being of healthcare professionals and staff at HTAR.
