Context: Cat received antibiotics for two months, but her infection didn’t improve and died.
Her bacterial culture showed resistance to multiple commonly used drugs.
Easy-to-get antibiotics are no longer effective, highlighting the danger of improper use.

Thoughts: The antibiotic cases have been on my mind for a long time. Feeders tell me they’ve been giving antibiotics, and I listen, trying to help case by case while always advising them to bring the animals to a vet. Sometimes they think I’m going to scam them just for suggesting that 🤡

For example, tick fever isn’t just one disease. It has different strains: E. canis, Babesia spp, Anaplasma… Doxycycline doesn’t work for all. If a dog has Babesia, you need a combination of antibiotics to fight the blood parasites.

How do you know which tick fever strain lerh?
You bring the dog to the vet. If the symptoms fit tick fever, the vet will suggest a diagnostic test kit. They’ll withdraw a bit of blood, drop it on the test kit, just like a COVID test.
Two lines mean positive, one line means negative.
If the dog shows yellowing, can’t move, or is very weak, the vet may do a CBC to check how low the RBCs are but most likely, a blood transfusion will be needed.
Don’t just buta-buta give antibiotics, pweaseee?

Guys, I don’t get paid for referring animals to vets! If I did, I wouldn’t still be working on pet treats at this hour 😅

I understand now why some vets become detached from advising or helping rescues and feeders.
We try to help because we care so deeply about the animals like hello, it’s past midnight and I’m still thinking about them 😭🔪
