The COVID-19 pandemic has altered the way children use the internet. With learning and education going digital, Malaysian children are spending more time online than before. It is crucial for the telecommunications industry to ensure their rights are protected and respected in the digital sphere, whilst addressing pertinent issues on their wellbeing.
Sharing the same vision, UNICEF and Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has extended their long-running partnership by signing a 2-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to raise a generation of responsible and resilient digital citizens that will help raise Malaysia’s digital equity in becoming a leader in the region.
In conjunction with this strategic partnership, there will be a dialogue session on ‘Championing child rights in the digital age’. The panellists are:
• Dr Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, UNICEF Representative to Malaysia and Special Representative to Brunei Darussalam
• Manisha Dogra, Telenor, Vice President and Head of Sustainability Asia External Relations
• Allison Low, President, PJ Child Council
• Dr Sumitra Nair, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Vice President and Head of Digital Skills and Jobs
The panel speakers above will also discuss:
• Internet as a powerful equaliser and driving digital inclusion to facilitate e-learning and digital skills
• Partnerships in ensuring safer internet for all
• Significance of digital world in equipping the future generation, both now and tomorrow
