130 YEAR OLD HISTORIC VESSEL VEGA AT STRAITS QUAY MARINA
The Historic Vessel Vega, a living museum, built in Oslo in 1892, is one of the last traditionally built wooden working ships of her kind.

Built using time-honoured craftsmanship, Vega represents the golden age of ship building, an era when wooden vessels carried essential cargo like spices across the region, linking communities and cultures through maritime trade.

Penang’s maritime legacy is deeply tied to shipbuilding, navigation, and commerce. Vega's arrival reminds us of Penang's history as a thriving entrepôt, where global trade routes once converged and helped shape the multicultural identiity of the state.

Historic Vessel Vega is more than a sailboat — she is a cultural artefact that tells the story of historical regional and global trade, maritime resilience, and generations of shipbuilders whose skills have sadly totally disappeared in Malaysia.
