Penang folks, though penangpac has closed, The Actors Studio Chorus and Orchestra will continue their music-making in Penang with a packed 2022 season.

They'll be presenting a concert version of a Gilbert and Sullivan classic, The Mikado, for one-day only on 3 April 2022 at the E&O Hotel's Grand Ballroom.

The comic opera premiered in 1885 and ran for 672 performances at the Savoy Theatre. Set in a small Japanese town, the story revolves around a newly-appointed ex*****oner named Ko Ko. Knowing that he has to carry out an ex*****on before the appearance of the Mikado, he quickly sets his eyes on an easy victim, Nanki-Poo, who agrees so that he can spend his remaining days with the love of his life, a maiden called Yum-Yum.

Directed by Julia Gauntley and conducted by Martin Rutherford, this concert version of The Mikado will bring to life some of the operetta's best-known tunes such as “I’ve Got a Little List” and “Three little maids from school are we”.
