Honoured to be part of the World Water Day 2026 Celebration held on 16 May 2026 at Padang Kawad, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. π§π
The event, officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang State, was a tremendous success with more than 1,500 participants attending throughout the day. The celebration featured a wide range of engaging activities, including the Water Run, watercolour and painting competitions, exhibitions, educational booths, and community outreach programmes aimed at promoting water conservation and environmental sustainability.
We were delighted to represent the School of Humanities, USM through our exhibition booth, where we introduced the MSc Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction (GeoDRR) and PhD in Disaster Risk Management programmes under DIGIHAZ. In addition, we also promoted the activities and contributions of the Malaysian Geographical Association in strengthening geographical education, research, and public engagement in Malaysia.
One of the key messages highlighted during this yearβs celebration was the importance of reducing daily water consumption to below 250 litres per capita per day. It was truly inspiring to witness the strong public awareness and collective commitment towards sustainable water use and environmental responsibility. Every drop matters, and every small action contributes towards a more resilient and sustainable future.
A heartfelt thank you to all organisers, agencies, volunteers, students, and participants who contributed to the success of this meaningful programme. Together, let us continue working hand in hand to protect and conserve our precious water resources for generations to come. π
