Reps to vote on state police bill Thursday – Deputy Speaker Kalu
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, says the green chamber is set to take a decisive step toward establishing state police.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, Kalu said lawmakers are preparing to vote on key constitutional amendment bills, including provisions for decentralized policing.
He said the House has decided to prioritise the establishment of state police ahead of other bills.
According to him, the House has directed all members currently outside Abuja on oversight functions to suspend their activities and return to the parliament on Thursday for the voting procedure.

Keyamo reacts as plane takes off from concrete road after missing destination
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has ordered a full investigation after a private aircraft that failed to land at Asaba Airport reportedly touched down on a concrete road under construction before later taking off again without regulatory approval.
In a statement on Wednesday, the minister described the incident as a serious breach of aviation regulations and security protocols, disclosing that the aircraft had been grounded while authorities conduct investigations.
According to Keyamo, the aircraft conducted a missed approach at approximately 7:43 a.m. local time while attempting to land at Asaba Airport but ended up landing on a concrete road under construction in the Ogwashi-Uku area, near Asaba.
Fortunately, he said, all four crew members on board escaped unharmed.
“I have received reports of the private aircraft that conducted a missed approach at approximately 7:43 a.m. local time this morning whilst attempting to land at the Asaba Airport and ended up landing on a concrete road still under construction in the Ogwashi-Uku area, near Asaba,” the minister said.
“Happily, eyewitnesses at the scene indicate that all occupants safely exited the aircraft and were transported to Asaba by road. The aircraft had four crew members on board and there were no injuries.”
However, the minister expressed concern that the aircraft later departed the location and flew back to Lagos without obtaining the required regulatory clearance.
According to him, the aircraft took off at approximately 11:02 GMT, while Air Traffic Control was notified only after it had become airborne.
“In other words, the aircraft had no clearance to take off again,” Keyamo stated.
He said the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has already taken several enforcement actions in response to the incident.
“Upon its arrival in Lagos, the NCAA immediately grounded the aircraft pending the outcome of its investigation, while placing the flight under regulatory review to determine the circumstances surrounding both the emergency landing and the subsequent unauthorized departure.”
The minister added that the NCAA is working with relevant aviation stakeholders, including the aircraft operator and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), to establish the full facts of the incident.
As part of the sanctions, the regulator has suspended the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) and will review all operational, airworthiness, maintenance and flight-related records in line with its statutory responsibilities.
“The NCAA will take further enforcement action in accordance with applicable aviation regulations,” Keyamo said.
He also disclosed that he had contacted relevant security agencies, which confirmed that the aircraft’s crew members are currently in their custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about compliance with aviation safety procedures and regulatory oversight, with authorities promising a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unusual landing and unauthorized takeoff.

Private jet lands and takes off on express road in Asaba, Delta State as NCAA grounds aircraft and suspends operator’s permit
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said the aircraft missed its approach at Ogwashi-Uku and landed on a roadway near Asaba. Preliminary findings show that the aircraft later departed the site for Lagos without regulatory approval.
On arrival in Lagos, the NCAA grounded the aircraft. The crew is under regulatory review as the Authority investigates both the emergency landing and unauthorized departure.
Meanwhile, the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) has been suspended pending review of all operational and maintenance records.

I’m more qualified to be president than Peter Obi, Kwankwaso – Seriake Dickson
Senator Seriake Dickson has said he is more qualified to contest for Nigeria’s presidency than leading opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, while insisting that he chose not to seek the office.
Dickson made the remarks on Wednesday, where he addressed questions about the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), its leadership, and the party’s relationship with Obi.
The senator said the NDC provided its platform to Obi without demanding any payment, stressing that the party and its leadership deserved recognition for making him the sole presidential candidate. According to him, neither Obi nor his running mate paid any money to secure their nominations.
Dickson argued that the narrative suggesting the NDC was benefiting from Obi’s presence in the party was misplaced, maintaining that the party was instead offering a platform to the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
He also dismissed reports of a crisis within the NDC, saying Obi remains a valued member of the party and that both sides are working together harmoniously.
Dickson blamed tensions on some supporters whom he accused of disparaging the party while claiming to support Obi.
The former Bayelsa governor further disclosed that several politicians had approached the NDC before Obi joined the platform, arguing that the party should be respected for the role it has played in building an alternative political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dickson said: “If we didn’t like them, if they are not people who have confidence in me or I have confidence in them, we wouldn’t offer the platform.
“And they didn’t pay one naira. They didn’t pay ‘shishi’. Okay, nobody pays ‘shishi’.
“So, if a presidential candidate didn’t pay shishi to be made sole presidential candidate, and a vice-presidential candidate didn’t pay shishi to become sole vice-presidential candidate, that same party cannot be the one saying …
“I think that I have to be given the credit. There is no one more qualified than me to run for the presidency. And for some reasons, I did not want to.
“So don’t make it look like anyone is doing me and the NDC a favour. No one is. Rather, the NDC is the one granting a platform, and that narrative is important.
“You cannot be supporting Peter Obi, if you are genuinely supportive, and at the same time discouraging me, the leader, or the platform itself. That is nonsense. If it were easy for people to form a party, if it were easy…
“Now, before Peter, I received Binani from Adamawa and several other people for five months. People should be careful. Okay, as we move on, the platform is there.
“Peter Obi is a cherished member of the party, and on our own, we have made him the sole presidential candidate. And that counts for something.
“And we are working well together.
“There’s no crisis. It is these supporters who I don’t know what they gain by disparaging the platform.”
