SECOND SERVICE
Word with pastor Iboro Akam
Topic: Act of Celebration
Text: Psalm 126:1–3
"When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing... The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad." (Psalm 126:1–3, KJV)
Celebration is more than dancing, singing, or eating together. It is an attitude of the heart and a spiritual response to God's goodness, faithfulness, mercy, and mighty works. True celebration acknowledges that every victory, breakthrough, and blessing comes from God.
In Psalm 126, the children of Israel celebrated because God restored them from captivity. Their joy became a testimony to the nations that God had done great things for them.
WHAT CELEBRATION DOES
1. Celebration Honours and Glorifies God
When we celebrate God publicly, we give Him the glory He deserves and acknowledge Him as the source of our blessings.
Psalm 150:1–6 – "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord."
2. Celebration Strengthens Our Faith
Remembering and celebrating God's past victories builds confidence that He will do it again.
Nehemiah 8:10 – "The joy of the Lord is your strength."
3. Celebration Unites God's People
When believers rejoice together, unity and love increase among them.
Acts 2:46–47 – The early church ate together with gladness and praised God.
4. Celebration Strengthens Fellowship
Celebrating God's goodness together deepens relationships among believers and encourages one another.
Hebrews 10:24–25 – Encourage one another and continue gathering together.
5. Celebration Invites God's Continual Blessings
A grateful heart attracts more of God's favour because gratitude recognizes His hand at work.
Luke 17:15–19 – Only one healed l***r returned to thank Jesus, and he received complete wholeness.
6. Gratitude Prepares the Heart for Greater Grace
Thankfulness keeps us humble and positions us for greater blessings from God.
James 4:6 – "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
HOW TO CELEBRATE
1. Celebrate with Gratitude
Always appreciate God for what He has done instead of complaining about what has not yet happened.
Psalm 100:4
2. Celebrate with Humility
Do not allow success or blessings to make you proud. Give God all the credit.
Proverbs 3:5–6
3. Celebrate with Holiness
Our celebration should honour God and reflect a life of purity.
1 Peter 1:15–16
4. Celebrate by Giving God All the Glory
Never take God's glory for yourself. Every achievement is by His grace.
Isaiah 42:8 – "My glory will I not give to another."
Celebration is an expression of faith, gratitude, and worship. It reminds us of God's faithfulness, strengthens believers, promotes unity, and invites greater blessings. Like the people in Psalm 126, may our lives always testify that "The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad." Amen.
