Big relief for Nigerians: 5 bank fees to be abolished from Jan 2026

We’re thrilled to share a major win for financial inclusion and ease of doing business in Nigeria.

According to the new fiscal reform laws under Taiwo Oyedele and the Federal Government of Nigeria, five common banking/transaction charges will be eliminated starting January 2026.



Here’s what’s changing:
1. The ₦50 electronic money transfer levy (EMTL) for transfers above ₦10,000 will be scrapped.

2. Stamp duty on salary transfers (employees and employers) will be removed.

3. Stamp duty on capital market transactions (treasury bills, bonds, shares) will be abolished.



4. Stamp duty on share/document transfer processes in the capital market will go.

5. The ₦50 intra-bank transfer fee (same bank account transfers) will be eliminated.

What this means for the market: For individuals: more value in everyday banking, fewer hidden costs.

For SMEs & investors: lower transaction costs, smoother capital market access, better cash-flow flexibility.

For digital payments: a boost to inclusion and uptake as cost barriers fall.
