Last Valentine’s Day feels like a movie scene in my head.
I was heavily pregnant, moving slower, breathing louder, and carrying snacks like emergency equipment 😄. But I was also glowing in that soft, quiet way that comes from knowing your life is about to change forever.
That day doubled as our 4-year engagement anniversary, so we decided to step out and celebrate before our tiny roommate arrived.
I remember struggling to find something cute to wear because nothing fit the way it used to. My shoes felt tighter, my steps were slower, and I kept asking, “Are you sure this dress still looks fine?” every five minutes.
We went out anyway.
The restaurant lights were warm, the music was soft, and for a few hours I forgot about swollen feet, midnight kicks, and the mountain of baby items waiting at home. I laughed loudly, ate without guilt, and enjoyed that calm before motherhood officially clocked in.
At some point I placed his hand on my belly and the baby kicked right on cue — like a tiny “Happy Valentine’s Day” from inside. We laughed so hard the waiter had to come back twice before we could order.
Looking back now, I didn’t realize how precious that night was. It was the last Valentine’s Day before life became louder, fuller, and beautifully different.
Sometimes memories become sweeter with time.
