ANAMBRA POLICE RECORD MAJOR SECURITY BREAKTHROUGHS
The Anambra State Police Command under the leadership of CP Ikioye Orutugu has recorded major operational successes against kidnapping, cultism, armed violence, child trafficking, sexual offences, and other criminal activities across the state through the gallant efforts of the RRS/AKS Operational Team.
On 10th May 2026, operatives successfully rescued four kidnapped victims, including the Chief Medical Director of Crown Hospital, Nkpor, after an intense gun battle with suspected kidnappers at Obosi. During the operation, two armed suspects were neutralized while the team recovered one locally made pistol, 100 rounds of GPMG ammunition, 23 expended ammunition shells, and three vehicles including a silver Lexus RX 350 belonging to one of the rescued victims.
Sadly, the Command lost one brave Police officer during the exchange of gunfire. The officer paid the supreme sacrifice in active service to the nation, while two other injured officers are currently receiving treatment.
In another major operation carried out on 7th May 2026 at Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South LGA, the RRS/AKS operatives recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with about 2,000 rounds of live chain ammunition, two fabricated rocket launchers with 25 propellers, ten Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one locally made Beretta pistol, two pump-action guns, three hand grenades, ten rounds of K2 live ammunition, one gas cylinder, and one black Ecolac box.
The Command also confirmed that one Nnamdi Nkemdilim Ogbonna, aged 37 years, alleged to be a top commander of a proscribed secessionist group, is currently in custody.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, operatives arrested Favour Izunna a.k.a “Njoku”, aged 22 years, alleged member of the Vikings Confraternity. The suspect led operatives to the recovery of one pump-action gun, seven live cartridges, one locally made Beretta pistol, and five rounds of 7.5mm live ammunition.
The suspect allegedly confessed to participating in several killings in Obosi and surrounding areas, including the deaths of Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka.
The Command also secured the remand of five suspects over cases involving sexual offences and child abuse in Awka and Oko, including a father accused of unlawful sexual relations with his biological daughter.
In Aguata LGA, operatives arrested Chinazo Winners Anyasirikwu over alleged child trafficking activities. During the operation, twelve children made up of seven girls and five boys aged between 1 and 20 years were rescued from suspected trafficking networks.
The Anambra State Police Command appreciates the support of the Inspector-General of Police, the Anambra State Government, sister security agencies, journalists, community leaders, vigilante groups, and Ndi Anambra for their cooperation in the fight against crime.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies.
