ABU VICE CHANCELLOR LEADS DELEGATION ON CONGRATULATORY VISIT TO PTDF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Adamu Ahmed, on Tuesday led the university’s management team on a courtesy visit to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to congratulate one of its distinguished scholars, Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, on his appointment as Executive Secretary of the Fund.
Professor Ahmed thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for appointing Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu as Executive Secretary of PTDF, describing the appointment as a recognition of his competence, integrity, and commitment to excellence. He expressed confidence that the Fund would continue to advance its mandate under Professor Aliyu’s leadership.
Highlighting the achievements of the PTDF Professorial Chair at ABU, the Vice Chancellor noted that the Chair has recorded significant research breakthroughs, including the development of a zeolite catalyst using locally sourced materials, for which intellectual property rights have been secured. He added that the Chair has trained numerous postgraduate and undergraduate students and developed a product that is now ready for industrial deployment. Professor Ahmed reaffirmed the university’s commitment to working closely with PTDF to accelerate the commercialisation and deployment of the innovation for national development.
In his response, Professor Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu thanked the university for the visit and expressed appreciation for the support and mentorship he has received from ABU. He reaffirmed PTDF’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the university, particularly through the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences & Engineering Technology, to advance research, innovation, capacity development, and human capital development.
The visit concluded with the exchange of gifts between the two organization’s, symbolising the enduring relationship between both institutions and their shared commitment to deepening collaboration in research, innovation, and the development of highly skilled manpower for Nigeria’s petroleum and energy sectors.

EDUCATION MINISTER BACKS PTDF’S VISION FOR WORLD-CLASS GENERAL SHEHU MUSA YAR’ADUA UNIVERSITY OF GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in its vision to transform the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology into a world-class specialised institution.
During a strategic meeting with the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Prof. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, alongside members of PTDF Management and senior officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Minister endorsed key implementation priorities following the recent Presidential renaming of the institution.
Prof. Aliyu informed the Minister that the University has inaugurated its Board of Trustees and Governing Council, and has already commenced academic programmes, including a split-site PhD initiative.
Dr. Alausa noted that the institution will operate as a government owned private university and confirmed that it will be included on the JAMB admissions portal once the required documentation is completed. He further encouraged the strengthening of international partnerships, the establishment of a sustainable governance framework, and deeper industry collaboration to position the University as a globally competitive centre of excellence.
Designed to serve Nigeria and Africa, the University will advance teaching, research, and innovation in petroleum, energy, geological sciences, engineering, and related disciplines. This initiative reinforces PTDF’s commitment to developing the highly skilled workforce required for the future of the energy sector.

PTDF COLLEGE OF PETROLEUM AND ENERGY STUDIES KADUNA RENAMED BY THE PRESIDENCY
The Management of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) wishes to officially notify the general public, our academic partners, stakeholders, and the energy community of a strategic institutional renaming.
In alignment with the presidential directive issued by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, has been officially renamed. The institution will now be known and addressed as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
This historic renaming honors the enduring legacy of the late statesman, General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, celebrating his profound contributions to national unity and the democratic journey of Nigeria.
The institution remains firmly committed to its mandate of delivering world-class research, specialized training, and cutting-edge engineering technology solutions to power Nigeria’s oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors. All ongoing academic programs, partnerships, and operations continue uninterrupted under this new institutional identity.

PTDF, AFIT Move to Strengthen Strategic Partnership for Capacity Development
The Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, today received a delegation from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at the PTDF Towers, Abuja.
Leading the delegation, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Kolade Ademuwagun, Commandant of AFIT, congratulated the Executive Secretary on his recent appointment, noting that “his reputation precedes him.” He commended Professor Aliyu’s distinguished record of service and expressed confidence in his leadership of the Fund.
The AFIT delegation also highlighted the longstanding and productive relationship between PTDF and the Institute, particularly in the area of capacity development. They referenced the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both institutions and expressed their commitment to renewing and strengthening the partnership for greater mutual benefit.
In his response, Professor Aliyu reaffirmed PTDF’s unwavering commitment to human capital development and capacity building. He assured the delegation that the Fund would continue to deepen and strengthen its collaboration with AFIT in pursuit of shared objectives.
The Executive Secretary further disclosed that PTDF is exploring additional areas of collaboration beyond its traditional intervention programmes and scholarship schemes. He noted that the Fund is particularly interested in leveraging strategic partnerships to support key initiatives such as the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, with the aim of safeguarding the Fund’s long-term corporate interests while creating sustainable platforms for excellence in petroleum and energy education.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing research, innovation, and capacity development in support of Nigeria’s strategic human capital and technological advancement goals.
