REPORT ON THE SUCCESSFUL DECORATION OF THE DIRECTOR, FCT FIRE SERVICE, TO THE RANK OF ASSISTANT CONTROLLER GENERAL ON THE 16TH OF MARCH 2026
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service recorded another significant milestone with the successful decoration of the Director of the Service Engr, Adebayo Zacchaeus from the rank of Controller to that of Assistant Controller General (ACG). The colourful ceremony was performed by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode FCNA, ACTI
The event attracted several distinguished personalities and dignitaries from across the fire and emergency management community. Among those present was the former Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Dr Ibrahim Liman . Also in attendance was the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, ably represented by Mr. Solomon Abenn , the Director of Security Services of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Adamu B. Gwary, FDC, former DG FEMA Mr. Abass Idris , service chiefs from sister emergency and security agencies, as well as other notable dignitaries.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the official decoration of the newly promoted Assistant Controller General by the Controller General, alongside the decoration of other promoted senior officers of the Service. The ceremony symbolized recognition of dedication, professionalism, and outstanding service within the FCT Fire Service.
In his remarks, the retired Controller General, Ibrahim Liman , commended the leadership and personnel of the FCT Fire Service for their unwavering commitment to duty. He particularly applauded the Service for its strong emphasis on staff capacity development through training both within and outside the Service. He further praised the FCT Fire Service for its remarkable contribution to the growth of the national fire service structure, noting that the Service has produced two Controller Generals of the Federal Fire Service. He recalled that he began his career within the FCT Fire Service in 2002 as Head of Department before eventually rising to lead the Federal Fire Service.
In his address, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode , reiterated many of the key points raised by the retired Controller General. He acknowledged the strategic role played by the FCT Fire Service in shaping the leadership and operational excellence within the national fire service system. The Controller General also noted that he equally began his professional journey in the FCT Fire Service before rising through the ranks to become the number one firefighter in Nigeria.
He encouraged officers and men of the Service to remain committed to their duties and to continue to uphold the values of professionalism, discipline, and selfless service to the nation. He further urged them to sustain the culture of training, teamwork, and operational readiness that has distinguished the Service over the years.
The ceremony concluded with goodwill messages from dignitaries and the taking of group photographs to commemorate the historic occasion. The event served not only as a celebration of career advancement but also as a reaffirmation of the FCT Fire Service’s growing reputation as a hub for excellence and leadership within Nigeria’s fire and emergency management sector.

A Public Rejoinder to the Residents of the Federal Capital Territory
The attention of the FCT Fire Service has been drawn to certain public narratives capable of causing confusion regarding fire safety responsibilities within the Federal Capital Territory. In the interest of clarity, public safety, and trust, it has become necessary to address the good people of the FCT directly.
The FCT Fire Service remains the statutorily mandated authority charged with the responsibility of saving lives and protecting property within the Federal Capital Territory.
With an unmatched operational footprint, the Service maintains thirteen fully functional fire stations within the city centre (FCC) and adjoining satellite towns, and one fire station in each of the Area Councils, ensuring prompt response, local knowledge, and effective coverage across the Territory.
This extensive presence places the FCT Fire Service in a unique position to engage residents, businesses, institutions, and communities in their day-to-day fire safety needs, ranging from emergency response and fire prevention, to inspections, enforcement, training, and public enlightenment.
It is important to clearly state that the recognized leadership of the FCT Fire Service remains unchanged. The Service is under the capable and indefatigable leadership of Engr. Adebayo Zacchaeus, Controller of the FCT Fire Service.

Fire safety is a collective responsibility, and cooperation with the lawful, well-structured, and territorially grounded Fire Service of the FCT is essential for a safer Abuja.
