Linking Adewoye to Monarchs’ Equity Campaign Is False, Malicious and Misleading

The recent publication attacking the Igbomina Traditional Council and some of the most respected traditional rulers in Kwara South is unfortunate, reckless, malicious, and deeply disrespectful to the revered institution of traditional leadership.

Particularly offensive is the erroneous, misplaced, and mischievous attempt to attribute the agitation of the traditional rulers to the influence or sponsorship of any individual political actor. Even more disturbing is the baseless allegation that respected monarchs were induced with ₦100,000 each to advocate a position they sincerely believe serves the interest of their people. Such allegations are entirely unsubstantiated and constitute a deliberate attempt to undermine the credibility of the traditional institution.

Nothing can be more insulting than suggesting that royal fathers of such eminence, pedigree, accomplishment, and influence could be assembled and induced with a paltry sum to express views on matters affecting their communities. Such a claim is not only false and reckless but also a direct affront to the dignity, honour, and integrity of the traditional institution.

While political actors and their supporters reserve the right to express divergent opinions on issues of representation and power sharing, it is both embarrassing and condemnable to drag highly respected monarchs into partisan controversies simply because they exercised their legitimate right to advocate for equity, fairness, and political stability within Kwara South Senatorial District.

The traditional rulers who addressed the public did so in pursuit of what they consider a legitimate concern affecting their people. Their position may be debated, accepted, or rejected in the marketplace of ideas, but resorting to unfounded allegations that eminent monarchs were induced to voice their opinions is a grave assault on the dignity of the traditional institution.

It is important to remind the public that many of the monarchs involved, including the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, the Alaran of Arandun, and several others, attained remarkable heights in their professional and personal endeavours before ascending the revered stools of their forefathers. These are accomplished personalities whose records of service and achievements are well known across Kwara State and beyond.

To suggest that such distinguished monarchs could compromise their honour, integrity, and lifelong reputations for a token amount is not only absurd and laughable but also profoundly disrespectful. Those making such allegations owe the traditional rulers and the public a duty to provide credible evidence or retract their claims.

The attempt to portray the collective position of the traditional rulers as the product of inducement rather than conviction reflects a disturbing decline in the quality of public discourse. Traditional rulers remain custodians of culture, peace, values, and communal harmony. They possess every right to express opinions on matters affecting the welfare, unity, development, and political stability of their domains.

Equally disturbing is the repeated claim that Muheeba Dankaka, an aspirant secured an overwhelming margin of 74,000 votes in an exercise whose details remain largely unavailable for public scrutiny. Such a claim raises legitimate questions that deserve transparent answers rather than emotional propaganda and media grandstanding.

Democracy thrives on facts, transparency, and accountability, not on unverifiable statistics and manufactured narratives.

The agitation by the Igbomina Traditional Council is fundamentally about equity, fairness, inclusion, justice, and the preservation of political stability within Kwara South. Reasonable people may hold differing opinions on the subject, but disagreement must never degenerate into attacks on revered royal fathers whose only offence is expressing their perspective on an issue of significant public importance.

The traditional institution predates contemporary politics and must never be reduced to a target of political frustration, propaganda, or character assassination. Respect for our royal fathers, civility in public discourse, and commitment to truth should remain the guiding principles as conversations about the future of Kwara South continue.
