Commelina diffusa, known in Twi as "Nyame Bewu Ansa Na Mawu," is a herb that has long been valued in traditional herbal practices across parts of Africa.

One traditional preparation combines a moderate quantity of fresh Commelina diffusa with 5–7 fresh limes (Citrus aurantiifolia) boiled in 1.5 litres of water for about 15 minutes. After cooling until warm, the mixture is strained and used according to traditional herbal practices for nearly all eyes infection.
