Power Disruption Hits Kaduna As Transmission Tower Collapses
Residents of parts of Kaduna South are experiencing power outages following the collapse of a transmission tower in Rigasa community. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 18, 2025, has been attributed to a combination of severe weather and vandalism.
According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna town line I and II gave way during a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds. Upon inspection, TCN engineers discovered that vandals had removed critical structural components from the tower, weakening its integrity and contributing to the collapse.
The disruption has affected bulk power transmission to several Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) load centers, particularly those serving Kaduna South. In response, TCN has advised KAEDCO to reroute supply by linking the 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, allowing some affected areas to regain access to electricity.
Communities such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North remain unaffected and continue to receive normal power supply.
TCN engineers are currently on-site, dismantling the damaged structure and preparing for the er****on of a new tower. The company has assured residents that every effort is being made to minimize the duration of the outage.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers in Southern Kaduna,” said Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN.
Efforts are underway to restore full power supply as swiftly as possible.
