*Photo:* Our Lady of Mount Carmel giving the Scapular to St Simon Stock. It is taken from the sanctuary convent where St John of Cross is buried in Segovia, Spain. Above it is the mystical pattern by St John of the Cross.
As July 16 is the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the Principal Feast of the Carmelites, let us be inspired by her Scapular promises that anyone who dies wearing the scapular will never suffer eternal fire, and that of Sabathine privilege - that if a Scapular devotee goes to Purgatory, Mary will help secure his/her release on the Saturday following one's death. These promises are on the condition that one remains faithful to it during life. Were you enrolled in the scapular but you have abandoned it due to sin, be courageous and get it back. Do you still wear your scapular but feel overwhelmed by difficulties of the spiritual life? That's an evidence that you are on the right path. Do not remove the scapular. Perseverance is a wonderful virtue. May Mary help us!

JUST BEFORE YOU STEP OUT
Good morning good Jesus.
O God, the eternal King, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into morning, we thank You for guiding us through the night and for the blessing of a peaceful rest. We are grateful for the gracious gift of this new day.
Lord, as we step out, please go before us. Lead us along the paths that bring glory to Your name and salvation to our souls. Let Your purpose for our lives unfold according to Your divine plan. Drive far from us all wrongful desires. Incline our hearts to love and obey Your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace.
May we carry out Your will with joy and faithfulness throughout this day. And when night falls, may we return to You with hearts full of thanksgiving, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
