Catastrophic Windstorm Unleashes Terror on Ekpri Obutong Community in Bakassi( L.G.A ) Cross River State on Sunday 24 May, 2026
Sunday 24 May, 2026 will remain a grim one to the people of Ekpri Obutong Community in Bakassi L.G.A of Cross River State as an epic, massive and devastating windstorm swept through the largely agrarian community leaving in its trail pain, anguish, misery and hopelessness.
The eye of the storm impacted severely on a household of four whose survival has been described by all and sundry as a miracle.
The huge storm pulled down a massive tree that stood tangential to the building that hitherto housed the unfortunate household, and caused the tree to tear through the house in a manner many have described as nightmarish.
The consequences of the gory storm left the affected members of the household in a state of hopelessness and despair till a ray of hope arrived when on his visit to Bakassi L.G.A as part of his consultation with party faithfulls : Hon Andrea Ekeng Inyang who vies for the office of Bakassi State Constituency Member in the Cross River State House of Assembly on hearing about the scale of devastation and the impact of the storm on the household made a stop over and handed down cash donation to the victims.
Accordingly, a temporal abode can be hired to house the victims till their home is renovated.
Thanks to Mr Andrea Ekeng Inyang for the philanthropic gesture extended to the victims of the disaster and so other spirited members of the public are requested to make cash donations to the victims through recommended channels.

Family of Six Escapes Death in Bakassi as Andrea Ekeng Extends Lifeline to Storm Victims
Residents of Ekpri Obutong Community in Bakassi are still counting their losses following a devastating windstorm that struck the community on Sunday, May 24, 2026, leaving behind destruction, fear and heartbreak.
The violent storm, described by residents as one of the worst in recent years, tore through several parts of the agrarian community, destroying properties and displacing families.
At the center of the tragedy was a family of six whose home was completely devastated after a gigantic tree, said to have stood for over four decades, crashed through their building during the storm.
Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying moments as the heavy winds uprooted the tree and sent it crashing directly into the family’s residence, destroying large sections of the structure and leaving the occupants traumatized.
Many residents have described the survival of the family as nothing short of divine intervention.
Amid the pain and uncertainty, hope arrived for the affected family through the timely intervention of Mr Andrea Ekeng Inyang, the Candidate for the Bakassi State Constituency seat in the Cross River State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress.
During his ongoing consultations with party faithful and stakeholders across Bakassi, Ekeng Inyang made an unscheduled stop at the scene of the disaster after receiving reports of the destruction.
Moved by the condition of the victims, he immediately cash donation to support the displaced family and assist them in securing temporary shelter while efforts are made toward rebuilding their home.
Speaking during the visit, community members commended his compassionate response, noting that leadership is best demonstrated in moments of crisis and human need.
The gesture has continued to generate commendations across the community, with many describing it as a reflection of the “New Energy” vision centered on responsive leadership, compassion and people-oriented service.
For the people of Ekpri Obutong, the storm may have brought destruction, but the timely support from Andrea Ekeng Inyang has restored hope that they are not alone in their difficult moment.
