*Affirming Words*
In Proverbs 12:25 the Bible says,
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Many couples have never learned the tremendous power of verbally affirming each other.
Verbal compliments, or words of affirmation, are powerful communicators of love. King Solomon wrote several proverbs about words. Proverbs 12:25, highlights the importance of encouraging words. Proverbs 18:21 is even more dramatic, saying, “The tongue can bring death or life.” Cutting critical comments can kill a person’s spirit, but affirming words bring renewal and hope.
Do you want to improve your marriage? Then you have to learn to complement your spouse. Get interested in the appearance of your spouse, make contributions and ask empowering questions on the outfit.
When you recognize and appreciate his/her appearance, you could say:
“You look sharp in that outfit.”
“Wow! You look great in that dress!”
Cooking is not an easy task. Just appreciate it when food is presented.
“You have got to be the best cook in the whole wide world. I love this soup.”
Don't just flatter, mean it. Because those words bring about improvements.
“I really appreciate your washing the dishes.”
Pay attention to those insignificant little things. Like adjusting his necktie, recognizing her hair, she made it for you. Talk about colours. Make someone special. The result is fantastic.
Say something positive to your spouse today, and know that the best marriage book ever written is the very one you are experiencing.
Lord Jesus, why is it so much easier for me to criticize than to affirm? Please help me to train myself to notice the good things about my wife—and to say something about them. I want my words to bring life, not discouragement. I need your help to develop new patterns, In the name of Jesus.
