Nana Shettima Highlights Cultural Ties Between Nigeria and Brazil.

Abuja - In a warm and cordial atmosphere, the wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Her Excellency Mrs. Nana Shettima, received Her Excellency Maria Lucia Alckmin, the Second Lady of Brazil, on a courtesy visit yesterday.

During their meeting, Mrs. Shettima highlighted the cultural similarities between Nigeria and Brazil, noting that both nations share values and traditions that transcend geographical boundaries. "Nigeria and Brazil are both known for their warmth, resilience, vibrant music—Afrobeats and Samba—love of football, and colourful festivals," she said.

Mrs. Alckmin, who accompanied her husband, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, on an official visit to Nigeria, shared the story of a women-focused social initiative she launched in 2001. The bread-making project has empowered over 100,000 underprivileged women across 17 Brazilian states, with plans to expand nationwide.

Mrs. Shettima praised the initiative, wishing Mrs. Alckmin a memorable stay in Nigeria and hoping that the visit would leave her with lasting impressions of Nigerian hospitality.

The Brazilian delegation's visit is part of the Second Session of the Nigeria–Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between both countries. Over 30 agreements are expected to be signed, covering key sectors such as defence, agriculture, energy, and cultural exchange.

The visit underscores the growing ties between Nigeria and Brazil, with both nations exploring areas of mutual benefit and cooperation.

Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and his wife were welcomed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport earlier yesterday, marking the beginning of their official visit to Nigeria.

EID EL-KABIR: Sardauna Disburses N2m Barka da Sallah to Yobe South Youth.

As Muslims around the world prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, Hon. Haruna Sardauna, Senior Liaison Officer on Political Support Groups to the Yobe State Governor, has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the youth in Yobe South.

Sardauna disbursed N2 million to support youth across the four local government areas of Yobe South, with the gesture described as "Barka da Sallah." To ensure the funds reached the most deserving beneficiaries, Sardauna constituted a committee chaired by Hon. Hamza Isa Bubaram, Senior Liaison Officer on Grassroot Political Mobilization to Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni.

The committee, with Hon. Auwal Buba Kukuri as Secretary, was tasked with compiling a shortlist of selected youth to benefit from the N2 million support. Notably, Sardauna funded this initiative with his personal resources, aiming to put smiles on the faces of Yobe South youth during this challenging period.

This gesture has been widely appreciated by the beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude for Sardauna's thoughtfulness and commitment to their welfare.

MMB Reporters Organize Ramadan Fasting Break, Empower 500 Youths with Cash and Phones.

In a heartwarming display of community support, the Mai Mala Buni Reporters (MMB Reporters) organized a Ramadan fasting break for over 500 youths in the Yobe South Senatorial District. The event, which aimed to bring together members and exchange ideas, also provided financial support and brand-new mobile phones to the attendees.

Comrade Haruna Sardauna, Board of Trustee Chairman of the MMB Reporters in Yobe South Senatorial District, while speaking to newsmen shortly after the event, revealed that “this gesture is the 1st Batch of the 2025 programme, we have 2nd Batch during sallah celebrations as well as 3rd Batch after the sallah, we intend to disburse the sum of N100million. Sardauna emphasized the organization’s commitment to alleviating the sufferings of the youth in the zine. He stated that the gesture is sustainable and will be extended to reach a larger population of youths.

The MMB Reporters' efforts are focused on showcasing the achievements of Governor Mai Mala Buni's administration, which has reportedly performed credibly in various sectors, including education, healthcare, water, security, agriculture, commerce, and infrastructure development.

Notably, the MMB Reporters receive funding from APC leaders, with Governor Mai Mala Buni being the backbone of the organization. Barrister Baba Kura Ba'aba, an APC chieftain in the senatorial district, praised Haruna Sardauna's leadership, describing him as dedicated, committed, and reliable.

The beneficiaries of the program expressed gratitude for the support and pledged their continued loyalty. This initiative demonstrates the MMB Reporters' dedication to empowering the youth and promoting community development in Yobe South Senatorial District.

GOV. MAI MALA BUNI ASSURES ARMY OF MORE SUPPORT TO END INSURGENCY.

Damaturu - Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army in its quest to end insurgency in the state.

During a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, at the Government House in Damaturu, Governor Buni praised the military's efforts in securing the state.

"The people of Yobe State are now able to move freely and pursue their legitimate businesses without fear, thanks to the improved security situation," Governor Buni said.

He noted that the relative peace enjoyed in the state had enabled his administration to execute its policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of the people.

However, Governor Buni called for increased patrol along the borders to prevent the infiltration of insurgents, who often target soft and isolated targets.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff assured Governor Buni of the army's commitment to ending insurgency and banditry in Nigeria.

"It is my personal ambition to see the end of this menace as quickly as possible," Lt. Gen. Oluyede said. "I call on our political leaders and Nigerians to support us in achieving this goal."

The Chief of Army Staff, who had previously served in Yobe State, pledged to deploy his knowledge and experience to help bring an end to insurgency in the state.

He also commended the Yobe State Government for its support to the army and called for more assistance to facilitate the end of insurgency.
