Do you know, Kanu was born on September 25, 1967, in Isiama Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria, to a royal family. His father, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu, was a traditional monarch.
- Education: He attended Library Avenue Primary School and Government College Umuahia before studying at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and later at London Guildhall University (now part of London Metropolitan University), where he studied Politics and Economics.
- Activism: Kanu's activism began with Radio Biafra, a London-based station broadcasting pro-Biafra messages. He founded IPOB in 2012 to push for Biafra's independence through peaceful means, although his speeches sometimes contradicted this stance.
- Arrests and Detention: Kanu has faced multiple arrests, including in 2015 on charges of treason and terrorism-related offenses, and in 2021 after jumping bail. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2025 on terrorism charges.
- Religious Identity: Kanu identifies as a convert to Judaism and has often appeared in court wearing a Jewish prayer shawl and head covering, leading his followers in Jewish prayers and religious observations.
