Many parts of Nigeria have started experiencing rain. For poultry farmers, this season needs extra care and attention.
Last year, I told you that there’s no fixed method for raising birds. What works during dry season may not work now. I also shared tips on how to raise birds during harmattan. Now, let’s talk about the rainy season and what to look out for.
Rainy season brings cold, wet floors, and muddy surroundings. These conditions can stress your birds. Once your birds are stressed, they can fall sick easily. You may begin to see whitish or reddish droppings. That’s not ordinary. It could be a sign of coccidiosis or E. Coli - two diseases that spread fast when the pen is damp and dirty.
If the litter is wet, the feed is exposed, or the water is dirty, infections can spread quickly. Your birds will start struggling if nothing is done.
To avoid this, make sure their pen stays clean and dry. Keep them warm enough so that they don’t feel cold. Give them good quality feed and clean water every day. Don’t miss any medications or vaccines. Also, don’t allow people or animals that can bring in infections to enter your poultry area.
When you handle these things well, your birds will stay healthy and you will avoid losses this season.

Tomatoes Fertilization 🌱
🌿For healthy tomato plants and a bountiful harvest, a fertilizer with a higher phosphorus content and a balanced nitrogen and potassium ratio, like 10-15-10 or 12-24-12, is generally recommended.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
🌱Why Phosphorus(P) is Important:
Phosphorus is crucial for cell division and overall plant growth, especially during flowering and fruit development.
🌱Balanced Fertilizers:
While a high-phosphorus fertilizer is key, a balanced fertilizer (e.g., 15-15-15 or 5-10-5) can be used during the early stages to establish strong roots and healthy foliage.
🌱Nitrogen:
While nitrogen is important for overall growth, too much nitrogen can lead to lush foliage but fewer tomatoes.
🌱Potassium:
Potassium is essential for fruit development and overall plant health.
🌱Soil Testing:
Before applying any fertilizer, it's always a good idea to get a soil test to determine which nutrients your soil needs.
🌱Soil Amenders:
Organic fertilizers like bone meal and Neem powder can also provide essential nutrients and improve soil structure. That's why Active fertilizer have developed a powerful soil Amender made from Bone meal + Neem to Amend your soil .
🌱Specific Tomato Fertilizers:
Many fertilizers are specifically formulated for tomatoes, often with a higher phosphorus content and a balanced NPK ratio. Contact Active for special tomato fertilizer formulation.
Caution ⚡⚡
Don't Over-Fertilize:
It's crucial to follow the instructions on the fertilizer package and avoid over-fertilizing, which can harm your plant
Summary 👍
A fertilizer with high Phosphorus content and a balanced nitrogen and potassium ratio will do great on your tomatoes.
