Today marks the beginning of a remarkable journey at Gombe State University as we officially launch the Opening Ceremony and Onboarding Session of the AMR Club Internship Program 2025. With 80 passionate students drawn from 6 faculties, covering 11 Local Governments, and supported by 21 mentors and 15 dedicated volunteers, this program is set to shape the next generation of AMR Champions. Together, through 6 sessions of impactful virtual training, we will raise awareness, build capacity, and contribute to the global fight against antimicrobial resistance. The future of responsible health advocacy starts here!

Antimicrobial Resistance Club (AMR Club) - Gombe State University
Mission Statement:
The Antimicrobial Resistance Club (AMR Club) is a dynamic community of students from Gombe State University dedicated to combating antimicrobial resistance and promoting public health. We empower our members to develop essential skills, build meaningful connections, and contribute to impactful projects that raise awareness about the responsible use of antibiotics and promote best practices in healthcare.
About Us:
The AMR Club was established to address the growing concern of antimicrobial resistance in our community. Through various programs and initiatives, we aim to educate students, healthcare professionals, and the general public about the risks associated with antimicrobial resistance and the importance of responsible antibiotic use.
Our Projects:
We have successfully implemented several projects, including the "Know the Facts: AMR Awareness Campaign" which aimed to replace antibiotic myths with facts through face-to-face engagement in schools, markets, and poultry farms. Our project was conducted on November 21st-22nd, 2024, in Gombe State, and involved:
- 10 volunteers engaged in awareness campaigns
- 121 individuals participated in questionnaires and evaluations
- 6 placards and infographics distributed to promote AMR awareness
- 4 locations visited, including schools, markets, and poultry farms
Objectives:
- To raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance and its consequences
- To promote responsible antibiotic use and best practices in healthcare
- To empower students and healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat antimicrobial resistance
- To collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to amplify our impact
Membership:
Our membership is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from Gombe State University who share a passion for public health and antimicrobial resistance. As a member, you'll enjoy benefits such as:

Our Achievements:
Our project has achieved significant results, including:
- 85% of participants reported increased knowledge of AMR after our campaign
- 74% of participants reported previously believing that antibiotics can treat all types of infections, including viral ones
- 52% of participants reported completing their antibiotic courses after being prescribed, showing a need for further education
- Positive feedback from participants and stakeholders, with many expressing interest in future collaborations
