NCC DRIVES DIGITAL PATRIOTISM AMONG CORPS MEMBERS THROUGH ITU CAMPAIGN

Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, were engaged in an impactful lecture led by Mr. Olubiyi Tobiloba of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), aimed at mobilizing support for Nigeria’s participation in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The interactive session, which blended awareness creation with incentives, underscored the importance of youth involvement in advancing national interests on the global telecommunications stage.

Addressing the corps members shortly after introducing himself, Mr. Olubiyi delivered a concise yet enlightening presentation on the relevance of the ITU and Nigeria’s strategic role within the global body. He emphasized that active participation by citizens, particularly young graduates undergoing national service, is vital in strengthening Nigeria’s voice in international digital and communication policies. His message resonated with the NYSC’s mandate of fostering national unity, civic responsibility, and informed participation in nation-building.

In a bid to stimulate immediate engagement, Mr. Olubiyi announced an airtime giveaway for corps members present, further encouraging them to cast their votes in support of Nigeria. He assured participants that additional airtime and data rewards would be allocated to those who took part in the exercise, with distribution to be coordinated through platoon leaders. This incentive-driven approach not only heightened interest but also demonstrated an innovative method of combining civic duty with digital engagement.

The initiative sparked enthusiasm across the camp, as corps members responded promptly by participating in the voting process. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, reflecting a shared sense of purpose and collective responsibility. Many participants commended the initiative for its dual impact, educating them on global telecommunications governance while rewarding their active involvement, thereby reinforcing the NYSC’s objective of developing proactive and socially conscious citizens.

The engagement forms part of NCC’s broader outreach strategy to galvanize grassroots support for Nigeria’s position in international telecommunications forums. Concluding the session, Mr. Olubiyi encouraged corps members to remain connected through the designated platform for updates and further inquiries. The event not only strengthened awareness but also inspired a renewed commitment among corps members to contribute meaningfully to national development through informed digital participation.

SERVICOM SENSITISATION SPURS TRANSPARENCY IN OYO CAMP

Corps Members undergoing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course in Oyo State have been sensitised on their rights to quality service delivery, with a clear assurance that they can seek redress through appropriate channels whenever services fall short of expected standards. The message was delivered at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin, reinforcing the Scheme’s commitment to transparency, responsiveness, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

The Head of SERVICOM, NYSC Oyo State, Ms. Abimbola Agboola, while addressing the Corps Members, emphasised that the initiative remains a critical pillar in promoting accountability within public institutions. She noted that the NYSC, as a service-driven organisation, is committed to upholding standards that reflect efficiency, fairness, and professionalism, in line with its mandate of fostering national unity and development.

Defining SERVICOM as the “Service Compact with All Nigerians,” Ms. Agboola explained that it represents a binding commitment to deliver quality service by doing what is right, timely, and people-oriented. She stressed that within the NYSC framework, SERVICOM ensures that Corps Members receive prompt, efficient, and courteous services while being adequately informed about their rights, responsibilities, and access points within the system.

She further highlighted that innovation in service delivery requires active participation from beneficiaries, urging Corps Members to engage constructively with the system. According to her, feedback mechanisms are not only tools for complaint but also instruments for institutional growth and reform. She maintained that when Corps Members channel their concerns appropriately, they contribute to strengthening the operational efficiency of the Scheme.

Speaking on complaint procedures, the SERVICOM Head outlined the structured channels available for lodging grievances, reiterating that while every Corps Member has the right to be heard, due process must be followed. She affirmed that SERVICOM desks are strategically positioned to address issues promptly, ensuring that concerns are treated with urgency, confidentiality, and fairness in line with global best practices in public service delivery.

The lecture concluded on an inspiring note, with a charge to Corps Members to uphold discipline, mutual respect, and active civic engagement throughout their service year. By embracing the principles of accountability and constructive feedback, they are expected to not only demand quality service but also embody the values of integrity and excellence, thereby contributing meaningfully to a more responsive and innovative NYSC system.
