SAMSUNG S8 rumours for 2017.

Taking a look back at seven days of news and headlines across the world of Android, this week’s Android Circuit includes the launch date of the Galaxy S8, Samsung's new beast mode, leaks of the new Nokia Android smartphone, problems with the Pixel, new smartwatches from Google, reviews of the OnePlus 3T and the Moto Z, and the best apps for Google Daydream.

Android Circuit is here to remind you of a few of the many things that have happened around Android in the last week (and you can find the weekly Apple news digest here).

Galaxy S8 Date Changes
The Galaxy S8 is coming - Samsung has already confirmed that fact in a bid to shore up consumer confidence after the Note 7 debacle - but the S8 might be coming a bit later than you think. The traditional reveal at Mobile World Congress is reportedly being replaced with a date in April... and that's a good thing:
Read my thoughts on the date change here.

Samsung's New Beast Mode

One curious new feature for the Galaxy may have is ' Beast Mode'. Uncovered in a trademark application, the suggestion is that Samsung is going to leverage the greater processing power, graphical ability and increased memory of the handset with a performance the exact opposite of the 'battery saver' modes currently available in Android:
Beast Mode details can be found here on Forbes .

Taking Two Nokia Smartphones Into 2017?

November saw Finnish company HMD confirm the return of the Nokia name to the smartphone market in the first half of 2017. This week saw some details on the handset leak out (Qualcomm's SnapDragon 835 and a Carl Zeiss lens were two highlights).
But the new Nokia may not be limited to a single handset:

Tapping The Pixel

Early in December Google updated its Pixel smartphones to run Android 7.1.1. One feature added as part of the update was the 'double-tap to wake' screen input. Given the fingerprint sensor on the smartphone is to the rear, this made the Pixel and Pixel XL much easier to use... when the feature works. Abner Li reports on the inconsistent issue:

9to5Google has more.
The reported delay is not only to allow for the battery issues with the Note 7 to be fully resolved, but also to allow the marketing teams to build up increased levels of consumer confidence in the flagship handset...
The push back to April also gives Samsung a different tactical angle to take with its press launch. Even if Apple does not release the equivalent of an iPhone SE 2, the Galaxy S8 launch will come a few weeks after all of Samsung's Android-powered rivals will have shown off the handsets at Mobile World Congress. Samsung's press launch will be in the enviable position of making the last move with this generation of handsets.

Android users are becoming used to different modes that have a bearing on their smartphone's power. The latest version of Android comes with a 'performance mode', users are becoming more familiar with the battery saver mode, and other manufacturers have added their own modes to the basic Android OS - Sony's stamina mode springs to mind.
Not only would Beast Mode allow Samsung to promote the high specifications on the Galaxy S8 (which will potentially be the highest-specced mainstream smartphone when it is launched), it would also represent Samsung's return to the cutting edge of smartphone technology. As for the imagery of a beast, it would emphasis the fighting spirit that will allow the South Korean company to overcome the Note 7 debacl

IPHONE 7 RELEASE DATE, SPECS AND PRICE.

APPLE'S NEXT FLAGSHIP SMARTPHONE, widely expected to arrive as the iPhone 7, is expected to make its debut in September, following the March unveiling of the iPhone SE .
The iPhone 6S arrived last year as Apple's incremental 'S' release, which means the iPhone 7, along with the iPhone 7 Plus no doubt, is expected to bring radical updates to the firm's smartphone line-up.
We've rounded up everything we know about the iPhone 7 so far, and will update this article whenever we hear more.
Release date
The iPhone 6S was unveiled on 9 September, and it's likely that the iPhone 7 will see a similar launch date next year. We're going to put our money on 7 September 2016. You heard it here first .
Apple's iPhones typically go up for pre-order a few days after they are announced, with an in-store release taking place two weeks later.
Price
Apple has kept prices stagnant for its past two iPhone releases, so if this continues the iPhone 7 will start at £539 going up to £699 for the 128GB model.
Specs and rumours
If history is anything to go by, Apple's next iPhone likely will feature a radical redesign, like the iPhone 6 was to the
iPhone 5S .
The first 'leaked' picture of the iPhone 7 has reportedly leaked (below ), however, shows that the new design won't be as radical as many were expecting. Analysts, too, are expecting an incremental update , and don't think the iPhone 7 will be able to give Apple's smartphone business the boost it's after, although Tim Cook claims we won't be able to live without it.
The image shows that it will feature the same shape and a very similar overall design to the iPhone 6S before it, albeit ridding of the unsightly plastic antenna lines and rear-facing camera hump.
However, a newer leak out of Macotakara allegedly shows off the plus-sized model (below ), the iPhone 7 Plus, with a protruding camera lens on its backside, alongside an iPad Pro-style Smart Connector that could be used to accommodate a Smart Keyboard add-on .
This leak adds further weight to the rumours that the iPhone 7 will feature a design largely similar to the iPhone 6S before it.
MacRumours has created a render (below ) of what it expects to the handset to look at, and it looks a lot like the leaked images above.
While the iPhone 7 won't look much different to its predecessor, there's talk that the handset will be tougher than before.
Chinese media is reporting that the next iPhone will have a strengthened and waterproof frame, and has been backed by a report from TrendForce which claims that Apple will kit out the iPhone 7 with "hardware innovations" such as water resistance. TrendForce also said in its report that the next iPhone will ship with 3GB RAM.
The next iPhone is expected to be thinner than the iPhone 6S, which could be made possible by ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack port.
A report from Fast Company , and previous reports from
Macotakara , suggested that the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack from its upcoming iPhone 7 will see the handset support only wireless or Lightning-compatible headphones. Apple reportedly won't offer Lightning-enabled EarPods with the next-generation iPhone, instead opting to sell a pair of noise-cancelling Lightning headphones separately.
With the headphone jack gone, there's talk that Apple will fill the extra space with an additional speaker, equipping the iPhone 7 with stereo sound .
Don't get your hopes up, though as a new leak out of
MyDrivers claims to show the circuitry for the iPhone 7 and, according to people in the know, this includes components for supporting a 3.5mm headphone port.
Apple is expected to launch two versions of its next smartphone: the 4.7in iPhone 7 and 5.5in iPhone 7 Plus.
The display on Apple's next smartphone might be the first on an iPhone to use Samsung's OLED screen technology, according to Korean website ETNews , which should offer a boost in vibrancy and power efficiency. However, this is unlikely, with newer reports pointing to OLED debuting on 2017's iPhone 7S , which will also reportedly feature an iPhone 4-esque glass design and alongside built-in iris-scanning technology .
There's the usual chatter that the iPhone 7 will feature a higher screen resolution, but no specifics have yet leaked. Thanks to the inclusion of 3D Touch, though, the next iPhone could be the first to come without a physical home button.
On the inside, the iPhone 7 could be the first iPhone to pack Intel chips, according to reports claiming that Intel has a 1,000-strong team working to ensure that the 7360 LTE modem chip makes its way into the iPhone 7, ousting the Qualcomm 9X45 LTE chip used in the iPhone 6S.
We don't yet know much about the iPhone 7's camera set-up, but speculation points to the iPhone 7 Plus seeing a bigger upgrade in the photography department. According to KGI, via 9to5Mac , the 5.5in handset will feature a dual rear camera, using Linx Imaging algorithms to combine the photo data into final images. The snapper is also tipped to feature a 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilisation and a wide field of view.
Rumours point to Apple phasing out the 16GB version of the smartphone with the arrival of the iPhone 7, despite speculation that the shift was to happen with the iPhone 6S.
Wireless charging is unlikely to make a debut, though, with rumours pointing to this debuting on 2017's iPhone 7S .
The iPhone 7, once available, likely will be offered in the same colour options as the iPhone 6S: Silver, Gold, Space Grey and Rose Gold.
We're also going to go out on a limb and assume that the iPhone 7 will ship with Apple's yet to be announced iOS 10 operating system, which will likely be announced during the firm's WWDC keynote on 13 June .

Also note that prices are in dollars due to the instability of the naira.

MOBILE PHONES ARE COOKING UP MEN'S S***M. SHOULD WE BE WORRIED?

Fertility experts are warning man that using a mobile for as little as an hour a day is "cooking s***m" and lowering level significantly.
The new study shows that having a mobile phone close to the testicles - or within a foot or two of the body - can lower s***m levels so much that conceiving could be difficult .
The findings have led to a leading British fertility expert to advise men to stop being addicted to mobile phones.

"If you wear a suit to work put the mobile in your chest pocket instead of close to your te**es. It will reduce the risk of your s***m count dropping or dropping so much."
Prof Gedis Grudzinskas.

The study - by highly respected specialists - found that s***m levels of men who kept their phones in their pocket during the day were seriously affected in 47 per cent of cases compare to just 11 per cent in the general population.
Professor Martha Dirnfeld, of the Technion University in Haifa, said: "We analysed the amount of active swimming s***m and the quality and found that it had been reduced.

"We think this is being caused by a heating of the s***m from the phone and by electromagnetic activity."

The team monitored more than 100 men attending a fertility clinic for a year.

They found that besides men keeping their phones close to their groin many spoke on the phone while it was charging and kept it only a few centimetres from their bed.

Even keeping the phone on a bedside table appears to raise lower s***m cell counts
The findings are in the journal Reproductive BioMedicine and support a long-feared link between dropping fertility rates in men and the prevalent use of cellular phones.

The quality of s***m among men in Western countries is constantly decreasing and is considered crucial in 40 percent of the cases in which couples have difficulty conceiving a child.
Men are advised to keep mobile phones in chest pockets.

Professor Gedis Grudzinskas, a fertility consult ant St George's Hospital London and in Harley Street said: " Men need to think about their well being and try to stop being addicted to their phones."

"Women generally don't carry their mobiles on them so maybe a mobile phone won't affect their fertility. That's not something we have looked at"
Prof Martha Dirnfeld"

And do you need to keep the phone right next to you on the bedside table. Some men keep their mobile in their shorts or pyjamas in bed. Is that really necessary?

Professor Dirnfeld said: "I think this is a warning to men to change their habits to improve their chances of having children. Women generally don't carry their mobiles on them so maybe a mobile phone won't affect their fertility. That's not something we have looked at."

Professor Alan Pacey, a fertility research scientist at Sheffield University has scoffed at suggestions that mobile phones could be damaging male fertility and insists he will be carry on putting his mobile in his trouser pocket.
Professor Dirnfeld said: "Dr Pacey might not need to worry about his fertility, but for younger guys it is a worry. If you a trying for a baby and it doesn't happen within a year you might want to think of whether it could be your mobile phone habit that is to blame."
