Drug abuse is a serious issue in Nigeria, with approximately 14.3 million people, or 14.4% of the population aged 15-64, involved in drug abuse, exceeding the global average of 5.5% .
*Commonly Abused Substances:*
- _Cannabis_: Most commonly abused substance, with an estimated 10.6 million users
- _Pharmaceutical Opioids_: Tramadol and codeine-based cough syrups, with about 7 million users
- _Amphetamine_: Widely abused, especially among youths
- _Co***ne_ and _He**in_: Also prevalent, often linked to trafficking
*Consequences:*
- Mental health problems
- Social instability
- Economic burdens
- Increased crime rates
- Health risks, including overdose and HIV transmission
