OPA OSUN

Opa Osun is a traditional wrought-iron staff used by Yoruba diviners known as babalawos in Ifa divination practices.​

The staff, called opa osun, serves as both an altar to Orunmila, the god of divination, and a symbol of the diviner's office during public ceremonies. Babalawos carry it as a walking stick during rituals honoring Orunmila, such as the Itefa Ifa initiation, and it features in protective roles against negativity.​

Importance in Ifá practice
* The Opa Osun is considered a deity itself and is crucial for initiating in any Itefa process, as it is used to call upon all other deities.

Ikin Ifa is the sacred palm nuts used in the Yoruba tradition of Ifa divination. These nuts are considered indispensable tools for communicating with Orunmila the deity of wisdom and knowledge in Yoruba religion.

Ikin Ifa are used by Babalawos (priests of Ifa) during divination rituals to seek so solutions to your current problems, guidance, predict the future, and receive messages from Orunmila. Typically, sixteen nuts are used, and their arrangement after being cast is interpreted according to the Ifa binary system, which reveals one of the 256 Odu Ifa (spiritual and philosophical codes).

The nuts are obtained from a special type of palm tree and are distinguished by having four or more "eyes" (indentations) on their base. Each set of sixteen nuts is known as an "owo Ifa" or "hand of Ifa".

Ikin Ifa is not only a tool for divination but also a symbol of divine wisdom and a constant reminder of Orunmila's presence. The nuts are blessed and used in rituals, sacrifices, and consultations to help devotees make important life decisions.

Ritual Use
During rituals, the Babalawo may knock on the nuts three times before praying with them. The nuts are also sometimes offered with other items like water, gin, fish, rat, c**k, etc as part of sacred Ifa ceremonies.
