Jealousy, envy, and comparison with others are mindsets that will never lead us in a positive direction. If we are not secure in our God-given worth and value as individuals, we will mistakenly look to others as a benchmark for our own success. I used to compare myself to my pastor’s wife, who was gentle, sweet, and nice to everyone. Why couldn’t I be more like her? I also compared myself to my neighbor, a homemaker who grew her own vegetables and sewed her family’s clothes. In reality, the more I focused on comparing myself to other people, the more inadequate I felt. Learning that I am an individual—that God has a unique, personal plan for my life and that I don’t need to compare myself with anyone else—has been one of the most valuable and freeing truths God has helped me understand. God has made you to be unique, with your own strengths and abilities, and there is no one who can be a better you than you. So set your mind to appreciate the gifts in others, and decide to trust God with yourself. It may take time and persistence, but tearing down this mental stronghold will lead to greater contentment and fulfillment in your life.

🙏🏻PRAYER FOR TODAY: God, help me stop comparing myself to others. Being jealous all the time is making me miserable! I want to be happy with myself and who You created me to be: uniquely me. Amen.
